plastic play

-CONCEPT-
The brief given was to design interactive exhibits to make children understand Plastics. Plastics as a subject is very wide and deep. To make children understand plastics, firstly, I had to go through the Topic in detail. The research had to be done and I had to shortlist a few topics about plastics to get started with.
-
What are Plastics?
-
How are they formed?
-
What is the chemical bond?
-
What is the segregation of Plastics?
-
How are they categorized?
-
What is waste? How is it Produced?
-
How is Plastic manufactured? How are plastic products manufactured?
-
What is recycling?
-
What are microplastics?
-
What are bioplastics?
-
What are the sustainable projects being carried out to address the same?
-
What are plastics in everyday life?
These are some of the questions that the exhibit were initially thought to talk about. The entire process had a lot of back and forth and it was quite Time Constrained. I had to ideate , decide and think of how to execute a particular idea within a given timeframe.
-FLOOR PLANS-
Along with the generation of ample ideas, we also had to work towards building an interesting floor plan. I started brainstorming right away and asked for the floor plan of the building to develop on. Nikunj provided me with the plan and I started sketching right away. The perimeters to be kept in mind was that it should involve human participation in some form. Making plans and parallelly generating information helped us to sketch with an idea of what to place where provided that the plan is taken forward. The plans were drawn and many options were discussed. The plans were though through and differentiated how each one was different from one another. While sketching out the plan, I had to visualize the space in 3 Dimension that is, how would it actually feel like to walk through it. Compartmenting was another task, each topic that was temporarily chosen had to be kept in one compartment or section in a smooth flow. The symmetric plan was taken forward at first but later that same idea was randomized and converted into a new product. Developing and redeveloping ideas was the process we took in hand. Combining good parts of different ideas to churn out a best one.
-FINAL SECTIONS-
After redeveloping the plan and the generation of appropriate information, the sections were to be finalized for further finalizing the ideas of the exhibits. The sections were finalized according to the ideas in place and arranged accordingly. The initial sections finalized were :
1) Plastic in Daily Life
2) What is Plastic?
3) How is Plastic Made?
4) Segregation of Plastic?
5) Plastic Waste?
6) Grades of Plastic?
7) Recycling Methods?
8) How are Plastic Products Made?
9) What are MicroPlastic?
10) What are BioPlastics?
11) Sustainable Projects on Plastics?
Finalizing The Sections Along with these sections of topics, we also needed to brainstorm some activities to be performed by the students to encourage more learning in the most exciting way. The activities that were thought of were as follows :
1) Playing with ThermoPlastic ( Gorilla Plastic )
2) Segregation of Waste
3) Recycling Plastic via Machines
4) Plastic Biodegradation
5) Making BioPlastic
6) Plastic Weaving
7) Making plastic bottle garden
8) Performing small tasks enhancing knowledge about plastic molecule like making a chain with sticks and clay
